General impressions…
This mountain village was beautiful. It’s a woodcarving town and many of the church altars around the world are made here. It is probably more of a tourist town in the summer, but in December we didn’t see any other tourists.

Priority for return visit…
High

Next time…

  • Passion Play 2020
  • Stay again at Gästehaus Richter (unlikely, since tourist agencies control all lodging during the Passion Play)

Beaten path index (See the key here)
Note: This index is based on our visit in December. During the Passion Play, it is definitely not off the beaten path.

Gästehaus Richter: The advantage of traveling during the off-season
We stayed at a bed and breakfast run by a delightful lady – Frau Richter. The entire town, including Gästehaus Richter, is very crowded most of the year. Because we were there during the off-season, we had a chance to talk at length with Frau Richter. She gave us all sorts of information about the coming Passion Play (2010) in which the entire town takes a part. Her husband and son will both be in the play, and her son has the lead role. (Frau Richter: “That would be Jesus!”) For more information about Gästehaus Richter:

It’s a short drive to the Pilgrimage Church of Wies and the small town of Füssen.
