Venice is definitely a tourist destination – it’s not off the beaten path at all, except that many of the paths are canals.

We found one of our all-time favorite restaurants just by accident. All of the restaurants had “spotters” just outside their door trying to recruit passers-by. This one was so sincere that we went in. When we hesitated while looking at the menu, our server took them back and said “I’ll take care of you.” And he did – an excellent meal, with complimentary limoncello at the end. The owner came in while we were eating and it was interesting to watch him – expensive suit, expensive haircut, standing in the middle directing employees like a conductor.
