Impressions…
- It was another interesting drive getting here from Vienna – very narrow, winding roads. We had driven through both Gaming and Waidhofen on our way to Vienna, so I knew how to get to the hotel without navigating the streets of Gaming.
- We found very little information about this market as we planned our trip except for opening hours and dates.
- Our hotel, Kartause Gaming, was once a monastery. Our room was small but clean and comfortable. The hotel also houses a university campus.
- The Christmas market was small but very nice. It was all within the structure of the hotel – food and drink in the inner courtyard and crafts in several rooms on the second floor of the surrounding building. All of the crafts were authentic and the craftsmen were at many of the tables.
- As in some other small markets we have visited, the parking lot was full when we arrived – mostly cars but several tour buses. And, as we expected, the parking lot cleared out as it got dark.
- We had dinner in the older section of the hotel restaurant. It was a smoking area but more interesting than the non-smoking part. They have their own brewery and were serving a seasonal Weihnachtsbrau.
